Four Roads
Four Road’s dominance peaked with an unprecedented eight-in-a-row senior titles from 2008 to 2015 and additional county victories in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
At provincial level, Four Roads have twice claimed the Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship, first in 1977 (following a Kiltormer walkover) and again in 1988 with a 3–5 to 1–8 win over Abbeyknockmoy. They progressed to the prestigious All‑Ireland semi-finals on both occasions, showing remarkable performances despite tough losses to Wexford sides Rathnure and Buffers Alley. After 2007, the Roscommon champions moved into the Connacht Intermediate Championship and have featured in five finals, though a win has eluded them.
Underage development is a cornerstone of Four Roads’ enduring success. They field teams from Under-8 through to Under-21, along with senior and junior sides. The club runs a well-structured hurling academy, offering fun, skills-focused training sessions where children are encouraged to bring helmets, listen to coaches and make new friends. Their underage teams are competitive not only within Roscommon but also often challenge Galway clubs, with notable successes such as a minor league victory over Tooreen.
Culturally, Four Roads maintain a deep-rooted local identity. Their traditional colours—black and amber—and home pitch at Tisrara Community Sports Park have been constant through the years. Their storied history was recently celebrated with a multi‑hour documentary tracing hurling in the area back to the 5th century, produced by local historian Paul Connolly and showcased in Roscommon Arts Centre earlier this year.
