Hurling in the Creagh area began in 1967 when James Costello started training local youth, laying the groundwork for what would become Padraig Pearses Hurling Club. The first competitive match took place in 1968, and by the early 1970s, Creagh teams were representing Roscommon at Féile na nGael and winning county titles.
