REBUILDING OUR HURLING HISTORY

Hurling in Roscommon is more than just a game – it’s a living tradition that connects generations. But what’s even more remarkable is that our connection to hurling stretches far deeper than most realise. hurling has been played in this region not just for decades, not just for centuries, but for millennia.

A late Medieval poem tells the story of a hurling match played on the shores of Lough Croan, tracing the sport in Roscommon all the way back to the 5th century. It’s a powerful reminder that the spirit of the game has been alive in our community for over 1,500 years.
